Hello family! I wanted to share this eventful weekend with
you......4/18/04The adventure starts out
with me going on a wonderful
two day Christian women's retreat with the ladies of our church. It was so fun, enlightening,
energizing, and tiring....we barely slept because we stayed up talking all
night, getting to know one another.
Then I returned home from the retreat on
Saturday at around 5 p.m. At 8 p.m. my youngest,
Miki,
was hunched over the toilet spiting up blood. Did I mention that both of my
girls had just had surgery two weeks earlier to remove their tonsils and
adenoids? Well, apparently Miki's wounds did not heal completely and a blood
clot broke free. I rushed her to the ER. Once we had arrived at the hospital,
Miki seemed to be
unshaken. She went on and on about what might have to happen. With a big grin
she asked, "do you think I will have to have surgery again"? Then she
proceeded to state how fun it would be to stay overnight. Finally, she
mentioned how cool it would be to ride in a wheelchair. Her three wishes came
to pass. Argh! At 11:15 Miki was sent into emergency surgery. We were
fortunate that Miki's tonsillectomy surgeon just happened to be on call that
night. All went well. Then Miki and I had the pleasure of staying overnight in
the hospital. At 10 a.m., Sunday morning, we were released from the hospital.
At 5:30 p.m., we were back at the hospital....did I
forget to mention that I was now accompanying my oldest Alex? See, while
I was taking a nap, to recover from sleep-depravation I accumulated over
the
previous three
days, my daughter Alex was outside with Jeff and some friends, and she
had taken a spill on her scooter.
BROKEN ARM! Now, she will be enjoying a six
week stint in a cast. On the ride home from the hospital Alex stated, "Wow
Mom, we had surgery last month, Miki and I both had to go to the hospital in
the same weekend this month.....I can't wait to see what will happen next
month!" Well, I burst out laughing! What great attitudes!
We returned home at 9:15, assessed our situations,
grateful that nothing worse happened, then all went to bed. The next morning
they both popped out of bed, excited to go to school and tell of their
wonderful adventures. Miki went equipped with some photos that the nurse took
and Alex went fully equipped with permanent markers for people to sign her
cast. As far as me? I took Monday off to SLEEP!
Our whole family dealt with these events really
well and we have recovered! And I hope I will not be sharing anymore
"adventures" with you next month!
God Bless,
Becca Harris
